Babies and the sun
When the sun finally comes out in the UK you will want to be ready to screen your children from its harmful effects but also help your child to safely gain the benefits vitamin D.
If your child is under 6 months it is unsafe to allow your child to be in direct sunlight at any time.
Between March and October children should wear clothing or sunscreen with a SPF30 protection factor (remember tops of ears and backs of hands) at all times when outdoors in daytime.
Between the hours of 11am and 3pm your child should be kept in the shade, even if wearing sunscreen or clothing, as the sun is too hot for children.
